David Reinfurt's A New Program for Graphic Design is the first communication design textbook expressly of and for the 21st century, synthesizing mid- to late-20th-century pedagogical models into a practical guide for students of all levels, drawn from the Typography, Gestalt, and Interface courses Reinfurt developed at Princeton. Its companion volume, A Co- Program for Graphic Design, extends that project into a collaborative one, incorporating contributions from Danielle Aubert, Tauba Auerbach, Barbara Glauber, Shannon Harvey, Adam Michaels, Philip Ording, and Adam Pendleton alongside material from three new Princeton courses—Circulation, Multiplicity, and Research—built for online teaching.

Both volumes are intentionally designed as trade-oriented paperbacks, and written for a broad audience rather than a specialist or academic one. Text is set in Gerstner-Programm, originally designed by Karl Gerstner between 1964–67 as a systemized interpretation of the 19th-century metal type Akzidenz-Grotesk for then-current phototype technology, and more recently adapted as a digital type family by Stephan Müller, released by Forgotten Shapes in 2018. It is paired with Menlo, designed by Jim Lyles as an Apple system font released in 2009, based on the open-source font Bitstream Vera.
