John Baldessari: The End of the Line

John Baldessari: The End of the Line, published by Pérez Art Museum Miami and designed by IN-FO.CO, accompanies PAMM’s major survey devoted to John Baldessari (1931–2020), bringing together approximately forty works spanning painting, photography, video, and installation. The bilingual catalogue traces his career from the foundational works of the 1960s and 1970s to the Cremation Project, in which he burned most of his paintings from 1953 to 1966. His combinations of language, photography, and imagery challenged traditional ideas of authorship, painting, and artistic meaning, and his brightly colored circles obscuring faces and details became a signature strategy.

The book is bound in a delicate, pale yellow cloth. The cover reproduces a portion of Aligning: Balls (Version A) (1972), and photographs are staggered above and below a horizontal rule that runs across the cover and through the interior, marking the midline of each page and dividing every spread into English above and Spanish below.
